NEW TRIP!

Join us aboard expedition yacht SV Sea Dragon for a high-quality 3-day Weekend sailing journey from the picturesque coastal town of Falmouth to the historic maritime city of Portsmouth. This mile-building passage along England’s south coast is tailor-made for aspiring sailors looking to gain hands-on experience, log valuable miles, and embrace the challenge of coastal cruising under the guidance of our professional expedition skippers.

What sets this voyage apart is the rare opportunity for each guest crew member to take full responsibility for a 60-nautical-mile coastal passage. Under the supervision of our Yachtmaster Ocean-certified skippers, you’ll plan the route, lead the navigation, manage the crew, and take the helm—providing a true command experience. This qualifies as a skippered passage for those working toward RYA Day Skipper, Yachtmaster Coastal, or Offshore certifications, and we’re happy to sign logbooks and issue a certificate of sea time upon request.

You’ll also get to:

  • Experience night sailing and watch systems
  • Refine sail trim and boat handling in varied conditions
  • Deepen your skills in weather routing, navigation, and passage planning
  • Build real-world confidence in a dynamic, supportive environment

Sailing with Panexplore means learning by doing—at sea, with professionals who’ve crossed oceans and led expeditions in some of the world’s most remote waters. This is not your typical sailing experience. It’s an immersive, empowering learning journey designed to fast-track your confidence on the water.

Please note that this sailing adventure requires you to be in good physical health and reasonably fit. Activities involve moderate to strenuous exertion, including extended hours awake and difficult physical environment to evolve in. If you have any medical conditions, recent injuries, concerns about your fitness level, or answer “yes” to any of the questions in the medical form, please contact us before booking. We take safety very seriously.

Tentative Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Falmouth Harbour
Arrive aboard Sea Dragon for 1100. Meet your skipper and crew, settle into your berth. After a morning of safety and boat systems briefings, we’ll cast off from Falmouth and begin our passage east along England’s stunning south coast. Expect a mix of day and night sailing as we start building miles under sail.

Day 2: Coastal Sailing & Rounding the Isle of Wight
Continue eastward past dramatic headlands, picturesque harbors, and historic ports along the Jurassic Coast. This day will be filled with hands-on learning—coastal navigation, helming, sail trim, and watch rotations. We may anchor up or come alongside in Weymouth for the night.

Day 3: Arrival at Portsmouth Marina & Departure
Sail past the iconic Needles and enter the Solent. Hopefully enjoy a downwind sail on the North Coast of the Isle of Wight and come alongside in the legendary Cowes for a lunch at RORC. We’ll arrive at Portsmouth Marina by late afternoon. After debriefing, and a final tidy-up, you’ll disembark by 1700. You’ll leave with new skills, sea miles logged, and unforgettable memories from your time on the water.

Travel Details

Falmouth is accessible to London and Heathrow International Airport via the Great Western Railways, they also have an iconic sleeper train all the way back to Paddington Station in London, which we recommend!

Heathrow International Airport is 1h30m from Portsmouth. The quickest way to transfer from the airport to the marina is via public trains.

All Crew members are responsible for their own passports and any necessary visas. You must have at least 6 months remaining on your passport beyond the end date of the trip. Please look into the specific type of visa you need for arriving at these destinations by sea, or contact us directly to discuss.
