Tentative Itinerary
Day 1: Welcome aboard in Falmouth Harbour
Plan to arrive at Sea Dragon between 1500-1700. Meet your fellow crew members and get settled aboard. We’ll review the passage plan, discuss weather forecasts, and prepare for our journey. There will be time to explore Falmouth and enjoy a crew dinner ashore.
Day 2: Boat/safety briefings and departure
Comprehensive safety briefings and familiarization with the vessel. We’ll set sail from Falmouth, heading southwest toward the Isles of Scilly. Depending on weather conditions, we may make a stop in Newlyn/Penzance or continue directly to the Scillies.
Day 3: Coastal Sailing/Newlyn
Continue our passage along the Cornish coast. A great day sailing provides excellent opportunities for navigation practice, sail handling, and potentially night sailing experience.
Day 5: Arrive St. Mary’s, Isles of Scilly
Anchor in Hugh Town harbour on St. Mary’s, the largest of the Scilly Isles. We’ll go ashore to explore this charming island, enjoy the famous crab sandwiches at the Mermaid Inn, and have our first taste of Scillonian life.
Day 6: Explore St. Mary’s
We’ll hire bikes to cycle around the island, stroll through the quintessential old town, and enjoy shopping from local artists and makers. The island offers beautiful coastal walks and beaches to discover.
Day 7: Sail to St. Agnes
A short sail south to St. Agnes, where we’ll anchor in front of The Turks’ Head, the most southwesterly pub in the UK. We’ll enjoy dinner at this historic establishment after a full day of exploration around the island. There are lots of beautiful hikes around and a delicious ice cream shop at Troytown Farm. At low tide, we’ll walk across the sandbar to Gugh and enjoy a picnic with scenic views of St. Agnes.
Day 8: Sail to Bryher & Tresco
Navigate north to anchor between Bryher and Tresco islands. We’ll savor the famous Scilly lobsters at Island Fish and explore these neighboring islands with their distinct characters. Option to visit the subtropical Tresco Abbey Gardens, a horticultural paradise unique to the British Isles. Enjoy coastal walks around the island, with plenty of opportunities to stop at a local pub for refreshments.
Day 9: St. Martin’s and Departure Preparation
Sail to our final island stop at St. Martin’s, anchoring either on the north or south side depending on weather conditions. Enjoy a final walk ashore in nature before preparing for our return passage to mainland Cornwall.
Day 10 – 12: Return to Falmouth
After securing the boat and a final cleanup, you’ll depart by 1100, having gained valuable nautical miles and unforgettable memories of the Isles of Scilly.
Note: This itinerary is weather-dependent, and we’ve built in flexibility with a few days on either side for the passages between Falmouth and the Isles of Scilly to ensure safe and comfortable sailing conditions.
