With a mixture of island hopping and blue water sailing, this Caribbean trip truly has it all. We’ll explore a bit of Grenada and Carriacou before setting sail westward, with fast downwind sailing ahead. With stops in Bonaire and the San Blas islands of Panama, there is ample time to truly enjoy the Caribbean and visit multiple island nations. Sailing, snorkeling, and paddleboarding are only some of the things you’ll fill your time with.

All meals on board Sea Dragon are delicious and vegetarian, with the addition of fish if we catch any along the way.

This is not a trip for the infirm or physically unfit – you MUST be able to go up and down the companionway and move safely about the boat while in rough conditions, have good balance, and be in reasonably good health. Tentative Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive St George’s Grenada
Plan to arrive at the boat in Port Louis Marina at 1600. Tonight will be all about getting to know your fellow crew members, settling in, and starting briefings. Spend the night on the dock.

Day 2: Sail to Tyrell Bay
We’ll continue briefings and then untie the lines to head out on our first sail together. A short day sail of 35 NM to Carriacou in the warm and tropical trade winds is just the ticket for an introduction! Keep an eye out for playful dolphins, frigate and tropic birds, and whales along the way! We’ll spend the night at anchor.

Day 3: Move to Sandy Island
After having time ashore in Tyrell Bay, we’ll hop the 3NM over to Sandy Island, which offers a small spit of land and less people. This will be the perfect place to prep for our passage to Bonaire. We’ll spend the night on anchor.

Day 4: Clear out of Carriacou, set sail to Bonaire
After clearing customs and immigration, we’ll set sail and point the bow west, embracing the endless horizon as land falls away behind us. This is our first night underway.

Day 5-6: Underway
We’ll fall into the rhythm of the watch schedule and passage life. Keep an eye out for marine life and seabirds coming to visit.

Day 7: Arrive Bonaire
We’ll arrive Bonaire after covering roughly 420NM! We’ll dock here and some relaxation will be well earned. Spend the night on the dock.

Day 8-9: Bonaire
There are so many wonderful offerings in Bonaire. Spectacular diving, snorkeling, windsurfing, flamingo sightings, and expansive salt flats are just a few! The choice is yours for how to spend your time. We’ll spend the nights on the dock.

Day 10: Set sail to San Blas
Time to head to our next stop, the San Blas Islands. We’ll untie the lines and wave goodbye to Bonaire.

Day 11-14: Underway
We’ll settle in quicker on this second passage of the trip and get back into the watch rotation.

Day 15: Arrive San Blas Islands
After covering roughly 675NM we’ll arrive in Panama! Clear customs and immigration and spend the night on anchor.

Day 16-18: San Blas Islands
Time to explore these extremely special islands. We’ll spend the nights on anchor.

Day 19: Sail to Shelter Bay
Time for our last sail of the trip, an overnight to Shelter Bay Marina. The waters will certainly seems much busier than on the other sails, as we approach the Panama Canal.

Day 20: Arrive Shelter Bay
After the 90NM overnight sail, we’ll arrive on the dock in the morning. There will be time to relax by the pool, grab a nice cold drink, or wander through the jungle on the trails by the marina. Spend the final night aboard on the dock.

Day 21: Depart at Shelter Bay Marina in Colon, Panama
You will need to depart Sea Dragon by 1000.

Boat Tour

Your Crew
Holly Vint, Captain
Holly first started sailing at 19 on what she had thought was a “once-in-a-lifetime” passage from Plymouth, UK, to La Coruna, Spain with a youth sail training organization, but during the voyage she became totally invested in a life at sea. She volunteered for that charity for a few years before becoming a full-time sailor in 2015. Since then she has worked for similar charities around the UK, all of which specialize in providing valuable experiences for vulnerable or disadvantaged young people, and also instructs adults on adventurous coastal and offshore trips anywhere from arctic Svalbard to the Caribbean – with some of the ocean crossings being undertaken by celestial navigation only. Holly has been fortunate enough to sail on Sea Dragon several times in the last 8 years: on eXXpedition voyages researching the prevalence of oceanic plastic pollution from Senegal to Guyana, in the Caribbean, and around Britain, and most recently across the Pacific from Mexico to Tahiti in 2023. Holly is a Yachtmaster Instructor, and holds Yachtmaster Ocean with commercial endorsement and Proficiency in Medical Care certificates. She has sailed 65,000+nm.

Abi Davies, First Mate
Abi grew up in Dorset, UK and exhibited a passion for all things sport and outdoors early on, spending most non school time playing/competing in various sports or being outside along the SW Coastline. Having completed her BSc in Geophysics at the University of Liverpool and an MSc in Exploration Geophysics at the University of Leeds, she decided to join the RAF to seek more adventure. Initially joining as a Fighter Controller, she changed branches to become a Communications and Networks Engineer and has deployed on various operations and exercises, giving her a breadth of experience in different high stress environments. During her time in the RAF she has represented the service in volleyball, athletics, bobsleigh, waterskiing/ wakeboarding… and sailing, both racing and on expeditions. The most memorable expedition was sailing from Iceland to Greenland, having to navigate huge icebergs/shelves and experiencing midnight sunsets. In 2023 she sailed with Sea Dragon from Hawaii to Tahiti via Kiritimati, which was the final confirmation needed to pause the military and pursue life as a professional sailor. Abi holds a commercially endorsed YM Offshore ticket and MCA Medical First Aid qualification.
