One of the most common questions we get from guests is whether we offer “official” training courses on board. We’ve always wanted to expand in this way, but haven’t found a way to do so that was quite right. That’s why when Charlie Triggs, who was an awesome deckhand with us back in 2018, got in touch to say that he was now working as an instructor for Ardent Training, we were excited. After some discussion, we’re happy to announce a partnership with Ardent Training, a leading provider of online RYA theory courses. To start things off, Ardent Training is offering a significant discount on their RYA Day Skipper course to everyone who sails with us. We’ll continue to provide the high quality hands on practical training in navigation, passage making, safety, and offshore sailing that we always have, but this new partnership provides a great opportunity for our guests to learn before they come on board, then put that training into use on Sea Dragon’s deck.

Ardent Training is the new leading provider of online RYA theory courses, for professional and recreational sailors. Built by highly experienced professional sailors, Edd and Charlotte Hewett, and Charlie Triggs, they wanted to improve the quality of theory training available, giving students a better learning experience, with more features and the best instructor support available.

Ardent Training’s range of courses start from the RYA Day Skipper theory course, right upto the gold standard RYA Yachtmaster Ocean theory course.

“Being a Deckhand on Sea Dragon was a huge stepping stone for my sailing career. I gained skills, confidence and was able to learn so much, all whilst having great fun sailing across the Pacific Ocean. I can’t recommend the Deckhand position enough. My experience has allowed me to work as a professional sailor in the years since, on conservation vessels and high latitude expedition vessels in different corners of the globe. During this time I also worked my way through my RYA qualifications, to become an RYA Shorebased Navigation Instructor and to become part of the Ardent Training team.
At Ardent Training we want to support our marine environment and our industry. Part of this is giving back to the charities and organisations that helped build our careers, such as Pangaea Exploration. We’re really excited to be able to provide discounted RYA courses to the crews and clients that sail with Sea Dragon, to help them gain their RYA qualifications and further their skills and knowledge.”
