Flashback Friday - Oahu to Kiritimati 🗺️
From the beautiful islands of Hawaii to Kiritimati, this was a stunning adventure with a magnificent group of people.
Also known as “Christmas Island” (because Captain James Cook discovered it on Christmas Eve 1777), was later named Kiritimati, the Gilbertese word for “Christmas”.
The entire island is a wildlife sanctuary and is the world’s largest coral atoll, with a land area of 388 square kilometers and a lagoon of roughly the same size.

We hauled her out, gave her a bath, and are ready to begin her engine, rigging, safety, aesthetic, and electrical maintenance!
This is standard annual procedure to ensure you have the safest, most comfortable, and top notch travel sailing experience onboard.
Fun fact: The British Maritime and Coastal Agency rate Sea Dragon to the highest standard of Category 0 All Oceans. Designed to thrive in the Southern Ocean and safely handle the world’s worst sailing conditions, the boats were also specifically set up for volunteer crew with limited sailing experience. Today, those same qualities make her an exceptional platform for long-distance, remote expedition sailing.
