Join us on expedition yacht SY Sea Dragon for a top quality 5-day sailing journey from the historic maritime city of Portsmouth to the picturesque coastal town of Falmouth. This mile-builder along England’s south coast is designed for sailors looking to gain experience, log miles, and embrace the challenge of coastal cruising under the guidance of our experienced skippers. There’s the opportunity to try night sailing, learn more about sail trim, try your hand at passage planning and just generally learn more about sailing, using the wind and building confidence under the watchful eye of our highly qualified skippers.

Embarking on a sailing mile builder with genuine expedition skippers offers an unparalleled sailing experience far beyond the confines of traditional sailing schools. These seasoned skippers bring a wealth of real-world sailing adventures, having navigated through some of the most challenging and remote waters around the globe.

All Panexplore passages are led by qualified RYA / MCA Yachtmaster Ocean-certified skippers & mates. All miles sailed onboard SY Sea Dragon will count towards your own license mileage requirements. We are happy to sign your logbook and provide certificates to this effect for your RYA Day Skipper, Yachtmaster or other countries’ sea-time requirements.

Please note that this sailing expedition requires you to be in good physical health and reasonably fit. Activities involve moderate to strenuous exertion, including extended hours awake and difficult physical environment to evolve in. We will expect you to be active for several hours daily, in all varying weather conditions and at all hours of the day & night.

This expedition is not suitable for individuals with severe mobility limitations or certain medical conditions. Your safety and enjoyment are our priority, and we want to ensure this experience is appropriate for your physical capabilities. All meals on board SV Sea Dragon during this trip are delicious and vegetarian, with the addition of fish if we catch any along the way.

Tentative Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive Portsmouth Marina Plan to arrive at Sea Dragon for 1500 – 1700. Meet your fellow crew members and get settled aboard.

Day 2: Boat/safety briefings and departure After comprehensive safety briefings and familiarization with the vessel, we’ll set sail from Portsmouth, heading west along the stunning south coast of England. Experience sailing past the iconic Isle of Wight and the Needles as we begin our journey.

Day 3-5: Coastal Sailing Continue westward along the Jurassic Coast with its dramatic cliffs and rock formations. Depending on weather conditions and the group’s progress, we may make a stop in a sheltered harbor such as Dartmouth or continue on. This day provides excellent opportunities for skill development in coastal navigation and sail handling.

Day 6: Arrival in Falmouth We’ll sail into the beautiful natural harbor of Falmouth, one of the UK’s premier sailing destinations. After securing the boat and a final cleanup, you’ll depart by 1200, having gained valuable nautical miles and sailing experience.

The deposit is only $500. It’s non-refundable. If you can no longer make it, or if we need to cancel or modify the trip we will either refund your deposit or apply it to a different trip. The remaining balance is due 60 days before the trip begins. Please review the Crew Contract.

Travel Details

Heathrow International Airport is 1h30m from Portsmouth. The quickest way to transfer from the airport to the marina is via public trains.

Falmouth is accessible to London and Heathrow International Airport via the Great Western Railways, they also have an iconic sleeper train all the way back to Paddington Station in London, which we recommend!

All Crew members are responsible for their own passports and any necessary visas. You must have at least 6 months remaining on your passport beyond your arrival in the UK.
