After waiting patiently on the dock for clearance from Mexico, we finally slipped lines, an excited crew ready to experiance warm weather sailing and following seas. Well if it was that easy everyone would do this!

First we have to get through a few days of ‘June gloom’. Although it is not June, Ensenada this time of year is usually grey skies, keeping us nicely cool without needing to turn on the air conditioning. Gloves, thermals and foulies are essential at night as we head towards Hawaii upwind. So its now day 3, we have not seen the sun but we’ve had some incredible sailing. Sea Dragon is built to go upwind and she loves it. We have made great progress in the right direction and everyone has recovered from seasickness. We have under 1900nm to go and the conditions are starting to show signs of the promised following seas and glimpses of stars.

The seas have been fairly flat so far. Brad is convinced Jeff and Gabbi have it out for him by ensuring they hit all the big waves, soaking Brad or making his shower particularly eventfull. Brad is looking forward to getting his revenge when surfing downwind on Saturday. Tina’s been a highly functional bucket holder, always willing to help out everywhere despite needing a bucket nearby, the bucket has remained fairly empty thankfully. Gabbi was the first one to suffer from seasickness however she is now back to bossing the boys around, much to Ricco’s dispair. Ricco’s response is to bribe/train her with offerings of brazilian chocolates. So all good and we should have the following seas by Saturday. Wish us blue skys and dolphins.
